The advanced method of detecting delamination

An automated device for surveying slab delamination.

XRSounder on a concrete slab

Automated device for surveying slab delamination

Delamination detection has long been a slow, subjective process, dependent on methods like chain drag and hammer sounding – both are labour-intensive and prone to human error. XRSounder changes that.

Designed and engineered in Canada by Xradar’s R&D team, this automated, non-destructive system removes uncertainty from concrete delamination surveys. Using precision sensing and real-time digital visualization, XRSounder transforms a once-manual process into a consistent, data-driven approach.

By digitizing what was previously a qualitative assessment, XRSounder provides inspectors and engineers with reliable, repeatable insights at speed. The result: faster surveys covering more ground, better accuracy (inches), and greater confidence in maintenance and repair decisions.

Built from field experience and developed for real-world performance, XRSounder helps engineers, municipalities, and NDT companies monitor the health of critical concrete infrastructure safely, efficiently, and objectively.

Proven in the field

Built to remove guesswork in concrete delamination assessments

XRSounder is designed for large concrete structures such as parkades, where delamination is common and difficult to assess reliably.

The system provides clear, visual results that allow inspection teams to understand conditions quickly and make informed decisions. By combining accuracy, reliability, and ergonomic design, XRSounder improves on traditional sounding methods and introduces a more consistent approach to concrete delamination detection.

By importing the data into XRMapper, you can get insights that are simply not achievable through traditional methods of sounding such as chain drag.

Key features

Visual Console

Live (via console) and report overlay, allowing data and integrity comparison over time. Not interfered with by external noise or ambient sound.

High Resolution

Pinpoint detection of defects as small as 1 sq ft allows for early intervention, preventing costly repairs.

Simple to Understand

Unbiased, data-driven accuracy that enhances decision-making speed, flexibility, and reliability.

Effortless vs Chain Drag

Effortless in comparison to chain drag. Foldable, lightweight, and convenient.

Consistent Results

Consistently reliable results eliminate the need for complementary tests, reducing overall inspection time and costs.

Membrane & Surface Coating Delamination Detection

Locating and mapping areas where protective coatings or membranes have lost adhesion – helping prevent costly water ingress and surface failure.

Reporting with XRMapper

Digital data mapping

With the more physical methods, aside from marking on slab, there is no way to map the information digitally and overlay large areas to identify required actions.

Post-Processing

Data post-processing and survey mapping is easy with XRSounder and XRMapper, giving you the ability to historically track condition assessments.

XRMapper Included

XRMapper post-processing software is included in your purchase of XRSounder.

FAQs

Your questions about XRSounder, answered

What is XRSounder?

XRSounder is an automated, non-destructive impact-echo scanner designed to survey concrete slab delamination. It transforms manual, qualitative assessments into consistent, data-driven geomapping. XRSounder utilizes ‘Concrete Sounding’ to determine the positions of delamination within the survey area. The device drags brass-ball chains to excite the concrete and produces signals of various frequencies, these signals are then captured and processed in real time, to produce an objective survey map highlighting areas of concrete delamination.

Who created XRSounder?

XRSounder was created by the talented Research & Development team at Xradar BC Incorporated, based out of Burnaby, British Columbia, Canada.

Will I need to perform complementary tests alongside XRSounder?

No. The system’s consistently reliable, data-driven results eliminate the need for complementary testing methods, which drastically reduces overall inspection time and field costs.

Is XRSounder difficult to transport or operate?

Not at all. Designed for field convenience, XRSounder is an ergonomic, foldable, and lightweight system that requires only a single operator, making it far less labor-intensive than traditional chain dragging.
